SOMAVAC® sponsored the Essentially Women FOCUS Conference, demonstrating its commitment to women’s health and to supporting the providers who serve breast cancer patients on their road to recovery.
“Thank you to our sponsors, American Breast Care, Brightree, VGM Insurance, and all of our exhibitors for helping make the conference a success.”
Why we sponsor FOCUS
FOCUS brings together the providers who care for women after breast surgery: mastectomy fitters, DME and home care providers, and women’s health specialists. They are the people patients see once the hospital is behind them, and the first to hear what recovery is actually like at home.
That is exactly the stretch of the patient journey SOMAVAC® exists to improve. Post-surgical drainage has not meaningfully changed since 1971: patients go home with Jackson-Pratt bulbs that must be stripped, emptied, measured, and recorded several times a day, often pinned to their clothing, often for weeks.
What we brought to the conversation
SOMAVAC® replaces the bulb with a small, battery-powered pump worn discreetly on a belt under clothing, holding continuous, sensor-controlled suction at −100mmHg in the deep wound space. Up to four drains connect through one-way connectors in a fully closed system, and fluid collects in a marked bag for non-touch disposal: no squeezing, no milking tubes, no safety pins. In a prospective mastectomy study, patients had their drains removed up to 30% sooner.1
Supporting this community is part of how we hold ourselves to that mission. The providers at FOCUS tell us what patients are struggling with long before it shows up anywhere else, and that feedback shapes what we build.
Our thanks to Essentially Women for convening the conference, and to the providers who spend their careers making recovery easier for women after breast cancer surgery.
